How does it work?

Currently we support a “visual difference” method of comparison. This method analyzes what is visually seen on a page. Changes on the page that can not be seen will not be monitored at this time, however, other methods of comparison are on the way!

You will be notified via email and/or Slack when a change is detected on a page you are monitoring. You can also check the status of any of the monitors at any time from ThatChanged.com under “history.” You can also run an immediate comparison whenever you want with the “check now” button. “Passed” means there was no change detected, and “Failed” means something changed.

Is the original version of the page always used for the comparison?

No. When a change is detected on the page, the changed version will become the base for future comparisons.

Does ThatChanged! handle JavaScript? HTML? RSS?

Yes! We support anything that loads in a browser!

What do I do if my monitor is detecting changes I don’t care about?

If your comparison “failed” because of changes you don’t care about, there are currently a couple ways to improve the monitor (and more are in the works!).

Firstly, you can try using our Chrome extension to select a specific part of the page you want monitored.

Or, in the page you are monitoring, click the settings icon to the right of the “change type” dropdown. You have two option boxes you can adjust to improve accuracy:

Length of time to allow page to load before performing comparison

Most pages load in two seconds or less, so this is the default setting. However, some pages may take longer to load. You can increase the amount of time to load the page before ThatChanged! makes the comparison. Try this if changes are being detected when the page has not actually changed.

Check should fail if change percent is above [insert %]

Some pages have graphics that move or current dates or times on them that will cause the comparison to “fail.” When a change is detected and you open the detail page for that change, changes will be highlighted in red and the percentage of the change in relation to the rest of the page will be stated at the top. Note the percentage changed from the “failed” comparison that was measuring frequently occurring changes that don’t matter to you. Put this percentage into the box that says “check should fail if change is above [insert %]” and the monitor will ignore those minor changes based on the percentage you entered.

What does everything listed under “history” mean?

TIME: When the comparison was run. You can adjust the frequency the monitor runs with the “monitor frequency” dropdown. You can run a monitor as frequently as every five minutes, or as little as once a month.

CHANGE TYPE: Currently we only support a “visual difference” method of comparison. This method analyzes what is visually seen on a page. Changes on the page that can not be seen will not be monitored at this time, however, other methods of comparison are on the way!

% CHANGED: This tells you the percentage of what changed on the page in relation to the rest of the page, so you can see at a glance if the change was large or small.

STATUS: This is the status of your monitor’s checks for changes.

Failed: A change was detected

Passed: No change was detected

Queued: The change comparison request is in line to be processed and has not finished running yet

System Error: Please use our contact form to reach out to us. We will respond within 24 hours.

DETAILS: Click on the “details” link to see the changes when a comparison fails. Changes will be highlighted in red and the percentage of the change in relation to the rest of the page will be stated at the top.

How do I see changes to the page I’m monitoring?

You can follow the link in your email or Slack notification, or go to ThatChanged.com and look under “history” at the bottom of the page in one of your monitors. Click on “details” for the comparison that failed. This will show you the changes to the page in red. If your monitor is detecting minor, frequently occurring changes you don’t care about, please see What do I do if my monitor is detecting changes I don’t care about? on this FAQ page.

Do you offer a free trial?

Yes! We have a two week free trial.

What are my payment options?

We accept all major credit cards. If this does not fit your needs, please contact us

How do I change my plan or cancel my service?

Under your profile icon, go to “Your Settings” and then select “Subscriptions” on the left. This is where you can choose a new plan or cancel your subscription.

If I turn a monitor off, does the page still count toward my monitored sites total?

Yes. The plan prices and number of sites monitored are based mostly on storage costs. The page is being stored even if the monitor is off. If you need more monitors, you can either upgrade your account or delete disabled monitors.

Is there a way to disable email/Slack notifications?

Yes, you can disable notifications in your settings.

Will this service work on my phone?

ThatChanged! should work on your phone, but for best results we recommend a larger screen.
